Histories in Motion. Memory practices, history cultures and historic learning within the German migration society

This joint research project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), involves the University of Hildesheim, Freie Universität Berlin, Paderborn University and the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research. The sub-project for which the Georg Eckert Institute is responsible uses textbook analysis and interviews with publishers of educational media to analyse whether history textbooks respond to the pluralisation of the historical narrative in the context of migration, and if so, in what way. The project aims to advance concepts of historic learning through close cooperation with partners from education practice and to compose recommendations for textbook production and complementary educational materials. Concepts for history teaching and learning in societies shaped by migration will be produced in cooperation with The Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ), the Federal Agency for Civic Education and a range of museums, memorial sites, teacher training institutes and stakeholders from non-formal historical education as well as publishers of educational material.
