The Reformation in Educational Media

  • Conference: On 8 and 9 November 2017, the GEI will host the conference ‘Von der Reformation zur Religiösen Pluralität. Bildungsmedien in Fokus’ (From the Reformation to Religious Plurality: Educational Media in Focus). The Reformation will serve as a starting point from which to investigate the topic’s depiction and relevance in educational media. At the same time, the Reformation will be considered in relation to the current socio-political situation, providing a basis for further discussions to explore concepts and tensions in scholarship and democratic society.

  • Evening Event: On 8 November 2017 at 6:30 p.m., the Georg Eckert Institute will host an evening event on the topic ‘Ich glaub’ was, was du nicht glaubst. Religiöse Vielfalt in der Schule’ (I Believe Something that You Don't Believe: Religious Diversity at School).

  • Book projectReformation in ausgewählten europäischen Schulbüchern (The Reformation in Selected European Textbooks). This project will conduct a case study comparison of textbooks in Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain. The analysis focuses on religion and history textbooks, investigating the main patterns and narratives in representations of the Reformation. How are different reforms portrayed? Which aspects stand at the centre of current textbook depictions? The project will place special emphasis on the Reformation in German textbooks for Protestant and Catholic religious education.
