Brigitte Depner
studied German and English at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Babes-Bolyai University in Klausenburg/Romania (1980-1983). Due to her leaving Romania for Germany (1983), she could not complete these studies. In 1998, she graduated as a librarian from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover with an essay on “Visuality in Primers. Images in Primers of the 50s and 80s”.
She worked as a qualified librarian in the Georg Eckert Institute’s Textbook Library from 1988 to 1995. During this period, she also worked on the “Bibliography of German Textbooks of Geography, History and Civics Officially Approved for Use in the Schools of the Federal Republic of Germany - A synoptic presentation”.
She worked as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover during the winter term 1995/96, then as a teacher at the Hanover Library School of Lower Saxony until 1998.
She gained insight into the activities of peer institutions, at the Central Public Library in Kingston upon Hull and at the College Library in Derby (both in Great-Britain) in 1985, as well as at the State Archive in Wolfenbüttel/Germany, where she worked in 1995.
She worked as a qualified librarian in the Georg Eckert Institute’s Scientific Library from 1998 to 2006. She has worked as the Chief Librarian of the Georg Eckert Institute’s Library since September 2006.
