Ewa Anklam

Dr., studied from 1988-1998 Recent History, Medieval History and German Studies at the Universities of Thorn (Poland) and Braunschweig (Germany). From 1999 to 2001 she acted as a freelance Polish language translator and interpreter for the Braunschweig District Court Circuit. From 2001-2004 she worked as a scholarly employee for the Technical University of Braunschweig on the research project "France and Germany in War (18th -20th centuries): The Cultural History of "Hereditary Enemies"." She wrote her doctoral dissertation on the theme: Knowledge from Visual Judgement: Military Surveillance and Reporting During the Seven Year War. During  2007/2008 Ewa Anklam was a Hans and Helga Eckensberger Foundation scholarship holder and researched the early modern university history of Helmstedt and Göttingen at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel.

Since March 2008 Ewa Anklam is a research fellow at the Georg-Eckert-Institute, where she is involved in the ANR and DFG project "Competition and Convergence. European Imagery in German and French Textbooks from 1900 to the Present."

Projects

At the Georg-Eckert-Institut Ewa Anklam is involved in the ANR and DFG Project "Competition and Convergence. European Imagery in German and French Textbooks from 1900 to the Present." As part of the project she examines the modification, diversity and the ambivalence of European Imagery in 20th Century German schoolbooks. Data is found through the analysis of upper grade geography and history books during seven historical cross-sections, oriented on central turning points in 20th century history. She is also integrally involved in the pilot study Europa-Plattform, in which she is responsible for the examination and conceptualization of German and Polish schoolbooks.
