Lucas Garske

studied political science as well as Spanish and Polish studies at the University of Leipzig and the Universidad de Extremadura. Periods living and studying abroad in central and eastern Europe and on the Iberian Peninsula spurred Garske’s interest in the politics of language, memory and identity. His MA thesis deals with the construction of collective narratives in German and Polish school textbooks.

Mr Garske has been working as a fellow at the Georg Eckert Institute since May 2011 where he is writing a doctoral thesis in the context of the collaborative research project "Digital Atlas of Political Images of Space in Central and Eastern Europe in the Twentieth Century" (Herder Institute in Marburg, Georg Eckert Institute, Knowledge Media Research Centre in Tübingen, Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig) about the transformations of images of space in European teaching contexts.
