Fellowships and Internships

Fellowships

The Georg Eckert Institute awards short-term research fellowships of between four and six weeks duration. Applications should be submitted by post or - preferably - by email before 15 September of a given year for fellowships in the following year. Further details on the application procedure *here*.
The Institute also awards the Otto-Bennemann-Grant for promoting methodologically innovative studies on international textbook research, and, once every four years, the Robert-Hermann-Tenbrock-Grant for research on Europe.

Internships

If you are a student or would like to make the most of your time after finishing your studies, you may apply for a period of practical training at the Georg Eckert Institute. The duration of an internship can be arranged to suit the internee's requirements, but should not be less than one month. As an internee, you will receive a work schedule which offers the opportunity to become familiar with both the research at the institute and the work of the library. You are expected to take part in the preparation of conferences, workshops and similar events that take place during your stay at the institute.

Research at the Georg Eckert Institute focuses on key thematic fields, each of which is divided into smaller subfields (details of these can be found on the website). If you wish you may indicate in your application the precise field or subfield for which you would like to work. By doing so, you will not get to know the entire range of work at the institute, but benefit from the opportunity of working in-depth on a project related directly to your own interests.

Internships are in principle unpaid positions; travel and accommodation must also be covered by the internee. At the end of your internship you will receive a certificate outlining your activities at the institute.

If you own your own laptop, it would be useful bring it along in order to help us to set up your workplace.
