Summer School 2017: Education for Emergencies

Education in Emergencies

Theories and Methods – Curricula and Educational Media – Teachers and Teacher Training

Braunschweig, Germany

At this years’ Summer School early-career scholars, senior researchers from and practitioners came together to critically explore theories and methods, curricula and educational media as well as the role and training of teachers of Education in Emergencies (EiE). Case studies and current projects of Non Profit Organizations have also been discussed. Particularly discussed topics have been the concepts of EiE and the importance of the exchange between research and practice and the relation of the work in the field and academic reflection.

The program of the Summer School was supplemented by a workshop on “Applied Theater” that made the participants experience the fears and needs of refugees, a film by Nefin Dinc and Herculas Millas “The Other Town” that examines the key issues of why peace is sometimes so difficult to achieve and a special program day in Berlin organized by the NGO Steps for Peace, where the participants met with different stakeholders and persons from civil society organizations, municipal administration and political education in Berlin.
