Infrastructure is an essential aspect of academic work. It is a prerequisite for research and provides the necessary space for new directions, trends and projects.

The department of Information Management and Publications is dedicated to establishing and sustaining such infrastructure. At the Georg Eckert Institute research and its infrastructure are closely intermeshed, and here the library plays an important part.

The GEI provides a wealth of internet- and IT-based services that inspire the exchange of academic results on both a national and international level.

Infrastructure is also an important aspect of our support of early-career scholars. It allows young researchers to build up networks, via international summer schools or doctoral research groups, for instance.

With the information and communication platform Edumeres.net the GEI seeks to support information exchange and networking within the field of educational media research as informed by cultural studies. Alongside textbook reviews and news from education research and praxis, the platform provides a virtual research environment (VRE), which creates a space for collaborative work between academics on an international level.

In order to render academic sources accessible to research worldwide, the GEI places great importance on the digitisation of sources, such as in the project GEI-Digital. These sources also form the basis for new research within eHumanities, the electronic humanities and social sciences.

Research results are published in a wealth of academic print-publications such as the Journal of Educational Media, Memory, and Society (JEMMS), Eckert: The Book Series, Eckert: Expertise, and the informative Eckert: The Bulletin. The electronic publications available on Edumeres.net include Eckert: Contributions, Eckert: Dossiers, and Eckert: Analyses.

Academic translation is a further important aspect of infrastructure. Here at the GEI our academic translators render research results accessible to an international audience.
