Publikation: „Education Reforms and Textbooks in the Middle East: Changing Perceptions of Self and Other“
Der Sammelband “Education Reforms and Textbooks in the Middle East”, herausgegeben von Samira Alayan, Sarhan Dhouib und Achim Rohde, befasst sich mit Bildungsreformen und Schulbüchern in der MENA-Region. Die Publikation bildet den Abschluss des Projekts „Schulbuchrevision im Nahen Osten“, im Rahmen dessen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler des GEI in Kooperation mit Partnern aus dem Nahen Osten und Nordafrika Schulbuchrevisionen und Bildungsreformen in der MENA-Region untersuchten. Die Publikation erscheint 2009 in arabischer Sprache beim Verlag Dar al-Shourouq (Amman) und 2010 in englischer Sprache bei Berghahn Books (New York/Oxford).
Der erste Teil des Buches widmet sich Bildungsreformen, die in verschiedenen Ländern der Region in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten durchgeführt wurden. Im zweiten Teil werden Fallstudien zu Schulbüchern und Schulbuchreformen in ausgewählten MENA-Ländern präsentiert, darunter auch vergleichende Studien zur Repräsentation des ‚Eigenen’ und des ‚Anderen’ in Schulbüchern.
