German-French Textbook Project

The German-French Textbook Project was one of the Institute's classic bilateral projects; it picked up a tradition that goes back to the mid-1930s. In 1951, it was a big success when the German-French Textbook Recommendations were accepted. At the heart of the project were efforts to renew German-French relations, and to overcome conflict and mistrust, which had built up during the course of three wars.

In the early 1980s, a new series of conferences began in which the Georg Eckert Institute cooperated with the French Association des Professeurs d'Histoire et de Géographie. This series dealt with a wide range of geographical and historical topics, from problems of rural and urban space, via industrial structure and development, to aspects of mutual perception.
