Andreas Christmann

Dr., studierte von 1987-1993 Arabistik, Religions- und Islamwissenschaft an der Universität Leipzig, promovierte dort 1999 mit einem Zwischenaufenthalt in Oxford von 1995-97 als Volkswagen Visiting Research Fellow am St. Antony`s College. Von 1999 bis 2012 arbeitete er als Senior Lecturer am Nahostwissenschaftlichen Institut der University of Manchester (GB) und war dort von 2000 bis 2011 Co-editor der Zeitschrift Journal of Semitic Studies. Seit Februar 2012 ist er am Georg-Eckert-Institut als Leiter des Arbeitsbereichs “Globalisierung” tätig. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt regional auf dem modernen Nahen Osten, und hier speziell auf Syrien, Ägypten und den kleineren Golfstaaten, insbesondere der VAE. Ein erstes Projekt am Georg-Eckert-Institut wird sein, die seit einigen Jahren (und verstärkt seit 2008) vollzogenen Schulbuchrevisionen zum Thema islamische Religion in den Golfstaaten (insbesondere VAE) zu rekonstruieren, begleitend zu protokollieren und schließlich analytisch aufzuarbeiten. Ein zweites Projekt ist die Neufassung und Re-Präsentation des Transferprojektes 1001-Idee parallel zum Aufbau einer Arbeitsgruppe „Fachdidaktik Islamische Religion“ aus Fachwissenschaftlern, Unterrichts- und Schulbuchforschern und Lehrern.
