Prof. Dr Marcel Mierwald: Analysing digital transformation
This lecture focuses on the challenging yet significant digital transformation in history teaching. It examines the latest technological development – the advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) – in particular, and explores the extent to which this digital educational medium is bringing about changes in history teaching. It is based on the premise that the teaching and learning of history in this context oscillates between tradition and transformation. To analyse digital transformation, a heuristic framework is presented and, using two empirical examples from the speaker’s own research at the GEI, it is demonstrated to what extent continuity and change in history teaching can be observed in the age of AI.
