School education - according to the basic assumption of education policy documents released by international organisations - has the potential to contribute to overcoming entrenched prejudices and stereotypes if it provides young people with more comprehensive information on which basis they can form a more differentiated picture. This analysis of current curricula and textbooks for the German school curriculum examines the extent to which this potential is being exploited with regard to the portrayal of Muslims, thereby taking up the call made in a publication by the OSCE, the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
