How is quality defined? Research infrastructures and knowledge transfer within German academia
The Georg Eckert Institute together with the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe and the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) at the German Institute for Economic Research warmly invite you to attend a panel discussion to take place on 16 December in Berlin.
“How is quality defined”
Research infrastructures and knowledge transfer within German academia
- 16 December
- from 5 to 7pm
- in the Berlin office of the Leibniz Association
- Chaussestraße 111
The importance attached to research infrastructures by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) which is now palpable on many different levels, proved to be the crucial incentive behind the project “Research infrastructure and knowledge transfer within the Leibniz Association – best practice models and strategies”; a project that ran during 2014 and 2015 and aimed to qualitatively assess research infrastructures and knowledge transfer activities.
The aim of the project, which was supported by the Leibniz Association and coordinated by the Georg Eckert Institute in Braunschweig, was to examine knowledge transfer and research infrastructures in their role as central instruments of knowledge systems and to discuss the existing frameworks governing their development and evaluation.
The involvement of Leibniz institutions across many different sectors allowed a transdisciplinary approach to be taken to the topic. The project group identified best-practice models of quality assurance and infrastructure evaluation and formulated wide-reaching initial recommendations for the quality assessment of products and services in this area.
The brochure produced for the panel discussion will contain recommendations for quality assurance procedures for research infrastructures, some of which stem from existing knowledge transfer processes. The brochure includes proposals which the project group believe will increase the visibility of processes aimed at supporting research and which also factor in the current discussion surrounding the promotion of young talent.
The panel, which includes experts on science policy and from funding and research environments, will address the central points of the recommendations.
