The Institute was established on the basis of a statute dated 26.06.1975. The ‘Statute concerning the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute’ (Gesetz über das Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsmedien | Georg-Eckert-Institut) was amended by the Lower Saxony state parliament on 10.11.2021 and came into force on 16.11.2021.

The board of trustees of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute deliberated on the revised version of the articles of association in its meeting of 7.12.2021. The revised version was officially approved on 22.3.2022.
