GEI Annual Theme 2025: #EndingTheWar
The end of the Second World War produced unmistakably ambivalent results. Even 80 years after this paradigm shift, the question of how the epochal year of 1945 is interpreted in the historiographical discourse and how it is represented in different educational systems has taken on a new urgency, particularly against the backdrop of the drastic changes in world politics that we are experiencing today.
Annual Conference: Ending the War and Establishing the Post-1945 World Order: Comparing Textbook Narratives across Time and Space.
(Braunschweig, 4/5 December 2025)
The GEI Annual Conference 2025 'Ending the War and Establishing the Post-1945 World Order' explores which textbook narratives about the end of the Second World War are still relevant in view of new global political constellations and investigates whether previous narratives provide indications of the emergence of these constellations. Such discussions will also examine whether educational media can act as a "seismograph" for fault lines or emerging conflicts
