Specialised Information Service for Pedagogy and Educational Research: Initial Services Online
The ‘Specialist Information Service for Pedagogy and Educational Research’ is a new service enabling academics to order specialist international literature and have it delivered to them as a direct loan. The service is available at www.fachinformationsdienst-bildungsforschung.de and covers publications not available through inter-library loans within Germany. The service also accepts purchase recommendations for journals.
The specialised information service will also provide copyright-free printed source material and historical textbooks from the continuously expanding Research Library for the History of Education (BBF) and the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research (GEI) can be digitised upon request.
The ‘Specialist Information Service for Pedagogy and Educational Research’ is a project supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) which aims to provide national access to specialist international literature not available through academic libraries. The service is provided through the German Education Portal and is maintained and run by a consortium of institutes, consisting of the Information Center for Education (IZB) at theGerman Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF),and the Research Library for the History of Education (BBF), the university libraries of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Humbolt Universität zu Berlin, as well as the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research (GEI). The two university libraries are responsible for organising the loans and the DIPF is the overall project coordinator.
The Specialised Information Service is available to anyone conducting research in the relevant fields. There is no charge for using the service; however users will be required to pay the postage for returning books to the appropriate lending library. Book orders are currently made by filling out a form, but the service will soon be extended to include the literature database of the German Education Index, which is also part of the same platform for pedagogy.
