Press Release

‘Textbook of the Year’ to be awarded on 13 March 2015 at the Leipzig book fair

Which textbooks will receive the highly prized accolade this year? What are the newest trends in textbook development? What characterises a good textbook? All are welcome to attend the announcement of this year’s winners at the Leipzig book fair. After the presentation there will be the opportunity to chat to the authors over a glass of sparkling wine.

All nine shortlisted works awaken curiosity, stimulate the pleasure of learning, encourage critical thought, illustrate correlations and open new perspectives. This year’s nominees include a digital textbook for the first time. The 2015 awards honour outstanding works for lower secondary schools in the categories: language, history and society, and STEM.

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research launched the award, in conjunction with the Leipzig book fair, with the aim of promoting high quality textbooks and encouraging innovation from editors and publishers. The president of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the German Länder, Minister Brunhild Kurth, will attend the awards ceremony as patron.

Evelyn Fischer (mdr) will be the host of the ‘Textbook of the Year 2015’ prize-giving, which will take place on

  • At the Congress Center Leipzig, Level 0, Mehrzweckfläche 2
  • Followed by a reception and a chance to meet the authors
