Textbooks of the Year 2022

  • Eight textbooks for upper secondary level in the categories, language, society and STEM were honoured.
  • There was a good balance between topical themes, innovative didactic ideas and a use of modern media.

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute and the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpd) have awarded the ‘Textbook of the Year’ prize annually since 2012. The award honours authors, editors and publishers for innovative textbooks. The prize is under the auspices of the Standing Conference of German Cultural Ministers.

First prize in the languages category was awarded to the textbook ‘Theater: Epochen und Verfahren’ (Theatre: Epochs and Methods). This drama textbook from Westermann impressed the jury with its use of topical references, terminology and design.

In the society category the textbook ‘Terra’ from Klett took first place. The jury described the geography textbook as ‘didactically and methodologically forward-looking’.

The chemistry textbook ‘Chemie Gesamtband 11-12’ (Chemistry complete volume 11-12) from C. C Bucher Verlag won first place in the STEM category. The jury commented on its successful combination of print and online versions and the fact that is simultaneously trained media skills.
