Media Transformation

Dr. Claudia Böhme has been working as a research fellow in the Department of Media | Transformation since July 2023. Here she works together with Dr. Andreas Weich and Prof. Felicitas Macgilchrist in the project "Educational Ecosystems-Patterns, Practices and Services" (EPPS) funded by the Telekom Foundation. In the frame of the project, she scientifically accompanies digital extracurricular STEM education projects for children and young people. These educational ecosystems offer making, coding, gaming or robotics in stationary and mobile maker spaces or foster research-based learning in cooperation between museum and school.

Claudia Böhme completed her PhD at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with a thesis on the appropriation of the medium of video film in Tanzania and the production and reception of Swahili feature films. She has undertaken several years of fieldwork in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and accompanied young filmmakers in their work (also actively as an actress).

She then worked at the Chair of Anthropology at the University of Trier where she has shifted her focus to Migration and Digital Media. Before she came to GEI, she has been working in a research project on "Future construction and trust building via smartphones and social media at intermediate places of transnational migration using the example of refugees from East Africa" funded by the German Research Foundation, for which she conducted research in Nairobi, Eldoret and the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya.
