Developing hybrid best practice procedures

The Research Library at the GEI holds a unique collection of textbooks and curricula. The condition of the material varies widely and requires a system of measures for prevention, conservation and restoration. A hybrid approach is being followed within the framework of the project supported by the Coordination Office for the Preservation of the Written Cultural Heritage (KEK / BKM), which means the entire collection is being reorganised with a view to its preservation and use in the new research library building. An accompanying training programme for the library staff will enable them to put these measures into practice to ensure their long-term effectiveness. The approach will be tested and documented by the project team with the aim of becoming a best practice approach for comparable institutions without the relevant expertise in restauration and preservation.
