City on the Move
During the first phase of this project, the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (Leibniz-Institut für Länderkunde, IfL) developed an online city plan with a tour through the city of Leipzig which, using biographical accounts and a wealth of background information provides an insight into a city shaped by transformation. At the heart of the tool are the experiences, adventures and stories of selected city residents whose lives have been defined by change and experiences of migration.
The second phase of the project builds upon this tool to develop an educational concept and create specific teaching materials for geography, history, politics and social studies. The project team will hold a number of workshops with experts, educators, teachers and other members of civic society, and will also work on certain elements with school pupils. The worksheets and exercises developed through the project will supplement the online city plan and add an educational aspect that can be used in diverse teaching situations.

Aims
The aim of the ‘City on the Move’ project is help promote an appreciation of diversity using the tool and the resulting teaching materials, to break down stereotypes and to highlight different experiences of belonging or feeling an outsider within the urban context. In order to achieve this goal the team aims to convey both subjective and objective perspectives of an urban society shaped by migration flows. The tool is designed particularly with school projects and project proposals for other educational institutions in mind.
